INTRODUCTION

WaasaWärtsilä Health Insurance Fund was established in 1952.

When the fund was founded, its name was Wärtsilä Yhtymä Oy’s Vaasa Machine Shop Relief Fund. On 23 January 1967, the name was changed to WaasaWärtsilä Relief Fund. The current name has been in use since 1 March 1972. More about the fund’s history can be read in Dix Huhtamaa’s memoir dated 15 March 2002, written in honor of the fund’s 50-year journey under HISTORY.

WaasaWärtsilä Health Insurance Fund operates as a workplace fund under the Health Insurance Act, providing its members with the benefits prescribed by the Act. In this sense, we serve as our members’ KELA office. In addition, the fund grants supplementary benefits based on the fund’s rules.

The activities of the workplace fund are supervised by the Financial Supervisory Authority and, with regard to health insurance benefits, by KELA.
